4 Questions to Ask a Roofing Contractor
Choosing a contractor for your home’s roof replacement isn’t a decision to make lightly. After all, if you work with an inexperienced contractor, they may end up causing more problems than they resolve. But, how do you sort out the reputable contractors from the rest? There are four great questions you should ask potential contractors to help determine whether they can be trusted with your roof replacement:
1. Are You Licensed?
First and foremost, find out whether the contractor is licensed. Contractors are required to hold a license in order to complete roof replacements, and a reputable company will be happy to provide proof that their license is up to date.
2. Are You Insured?
Next, make sure the roofer you choose has insurance and workers’ compensation. Accidents happen in the roofing industry, and it’s important to know that you’ll be protected should one of the roofers working on your home be injured on the job.
3. Do You Have Any References?
Once you’ve covered the basics, read through the contractor’s reviews and see what their past customers are saying about them. You may also want to ask whether you can visit a completed job site and speak with the homeowner about their experience. A trustworthy roofer will be happy to put you in touch with their past customers. If they aren’t able to provide references, consider it a red flag.
4. Do You Offer a Warranty?
Finally, ask about warranties. Most roofing companies offer two different warranties – one for the material and one for the labor. The material warranty is typically provided by the manufacturer while the labor warranty is provided by the contractor.
